When it comes to prints, it’s no secret that Mary Katrantzou is at the top of her A-game. So much so, that after the British designer announced she was teaming up with adidas Originals last year, we were head-over-heels for what to expect. Well now the duo is back again, and it’s safe to say that the print maven has given athleticwear an eighties edge!
Katrantzou and Adidas’ second collaboration features the designer’s bold patterns and floral jacquards throughout 24 ready-to-wear separates. Inspired by symbols from 80s aerobics classes and the Seoul Olympics, Katrantzou used collages made from sports items including a stopwatch, tennis racket and badminton shuttlecock, reports WWD. Pieces from the collection range from reversible varsity jackets and track pants, to tank dresses and boy shorts. Katrantzou also put a stylish spin on footwear, applying floral prints to sneakers that are sure to take you beyond the gym scene.
At the collection’s launch party, the designer also spilled about the new direction the label is going, telling WWD: “A lot is changing also within the company. We’re bringing in senior management, diversifying into accessories and just building a brand that can allow for a much wider product.”
