When you think of the beauty industry’s embracement of black women, many would debate whether it’s been a bit of a disappointment or not. Yes, we can admit that the industry has opened its eyes to a wider spectrum of what is considered “beautiful” (thanks to wide-stream brands like Dove and Head & Shoulders). But when we round up products that cater specifically to women of color, it’s pretty evident that there’s still more work to be done.

Luckily, one company’s reincarnation of an iconic beauty pioneer is striving to make that gap a little less widespread. The team over at Sundial (which owns brands like SheaMoisture and Nubian Heritage) is bringing attention to America’s first self-made female millionaire – Madam C.J. Walker – by creating a hair care line that represents her legacy, and selling it exclusively at Sephora.

Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture, a four-collection line, is the latest range designed to help restore and maintain all hair types. But along with recognizing Walker’s impressive legacy, Sundial connected with the pioneer’s great-granddaughter and official Madam C.J. Walker historian and biographer, A’Lelia Bundles, to make consumers aware of the beauty she’s brought (and continues to bring) to women of color.

“Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture is taking what Madam Walker envisioned more than 100 years ago to a fresh, new level with products and formulas I believe she might have imagined for the 21st century,” Bundles noted in a press release. “In one of her last speeches, Madam Walker emphasized the importance of healthy hair – whether curly-kinky, straight, wavy, or in-between – each style beautiful in its own uniqueness. With this line, every woman can have healthier hair while also confidently expressing her beauty in the best way possible – hers.”

Available March 4, 2016, the line consists of four collections that address the cleansing, treatment and styling needs of all hair textures. Each targets a specific need and comes with titles that promise to smooth and style (Brassica Seed & Shea Oils Collection), prevent frizz/humidity (Coconut & Moringa Oils Collection), nourish the scalp (Dream Come True Collection) and define curls (Jamaican Black Castor & Murumuru Oils Collection).

So no matter your hair care needs, we’re hoping this is the next brand to have us hashtagging #HairGoals all over social media.
